But Art IS Therapy X My Story

The above piece was from when I first started CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), I thought therapy was about handing over your head and it'd be fixed but it actually teaches you how to heal yourself, what went wrong, and how to avoid it happening again with strategies like there's 3 parts to everyday *still the most useful advice ever been given* it was all eyeopening to say the least; but nowhere near as life changing as art was...it became my own personal therapy, a way that I could express my thoughts and overwhelming emotions when I didn't have the words.

When you don't have the words, trying to understand what's going on with your mental health can be difficult and that's where art comes in! Art used for therapeutic purposes has major benefits including getting to know yourself better and the issues your facing being portrayed through creative mediums as to let out the emotions/thoughts or scenario out in a way that seems less scary than talking about it.

Art therapy is a thing but you need a licensed art therapist to get the full experience but I've also come to realise all art is therapy, when you're just going with the flow being focused on process not outcome; no skill necessary, art is subjective and
"Creative activity could be described as a type of learning process where teacher and pupil are located in the same individual" - You can teach yourself a lot through art making and it helps maintain a balance of your emotions/thoughts in ways you can't do through talking alone. "Art, as therapy, has the power to heal us from deep within".

 Till next time,
