How To Art

You don't need fancy supplies to create amazing artwork it's a myth, it certainly helps to advance your work but it's not a necessity for creating. You can create art with just a normal pen or pencil and some paper.

But how do I art? Well you first need to let go of any outcome assumptions or ideas and just go for it, put the pen/pencil to the paper and move it around however feels natural - if you feel like dragging it across the page do that, if you feel like being all floaty or scribbly do that; you can set a 30 second timer whilst you draw to help you get into the flow. The more you practice this automatic drawing the easier it becomes and the more ideas you'll start to get. My next tip is to experiment with art supplies like marker pens, pencils, paints etc. and see what you can do with whatever you just produced in the drawing exercise. It takes time to figure out which supplies you like using best and over time you'll start to develop your own art style which is basically like handwriting, we all have our own style (it may be extremely similar to someone else's but not the exact same with the same mistakes)...the more you practice the clearer your art style becomes, with common themes you're drawing or the use of art supplies in a certain order to create your exact style. With each experiment or practice of using art supplies the closer you are to finding an art style. Eventually once you have an art style, it'll inevitably change as you change and as you get more comfortable with the art supplies.

Acrylic paint is a thicker/better quality version of poster paint which I think is for kids because of the lead content in acrylic paint which is poisonous to children and not poisonous to adults due to the skin on hands being more resistant than children's. Each brand is different so no two acrylic paints are the exact same, some brands are more inspiring than others it's like the products themselves have something to say and you're just helping it get on the page, some brands/products you gel with and others you really don't; It's a trial and error thing.

Watercolour is the first one I started my journey with and a normal pen, I really liked how expressive it could be of my emotions. If you want to paint your emotions choose colour(s) that you're initially drawn to and paint however feels natural, don't worry about being all perfectionist that ruins the flow just move the brush around; again set a timer for 3 mins to help with this. Another tip any brushes that you mess up from not cleaning correctly can be used to create texture when painting which can be expressive of emotions. So you don't even need good brushes to create amazing artwork!

Have a junk journal to experiment in, it's similar to normal journalling but you can add recycled materials/bits and pieces and create something truly one of a kind. You can experiment with washi tape and stickers and doodles and whatever medium you're wanting to practice - it's a pressure free way of creating and can also be used as inspo later down the line for separate pieces.

Art can be overwhelming at first and confusing but keep practising

Till next time,
