Posca X Review

Want to level uppp your artwork? Posca paint pens are a life changing art supply and one of my favourite to use, if you're new to the art world you may not have heard of them but basically they're acrylic paint in a pen that you can draw or colour/paint with!

I discovered Posca paint pens fairly early in my art journey (I started in 2018 but discovered them in 2019) and it was an absolute game changer, I've never felt so inspired by an art product - I was excited to use the paint pens and was impressed by the ease of use and how good the quality of the product was like opacity was perfect it gave a professional finish,  it really did level up my work.

The paint pens come in various sizes which I've experimented with and they also do lots of colour variations but my favourites are the metallic or the pastel colour set, I've recently seen they do the paint pens in glitter format too which i'm interested to try; The only down side to this is I've only seen them available in the 3M size which is a fairly small nib (I like the size of the nib), the acrylic doesn't flow for that long in comparison to the 5M size which is the size of a marker pen nib. Usually when the product is "running out" on the 5M size you can squeeze it on to a palette and either use a brush or dip the nip into it, but you can't seem to do that with the 3M size meaning there's loads of acrylic still in the paint pen that's un-accessible. A positive of the 3M size however is you can get more precise details or outlines of small things. My advice is to buy the 5M size if you're trying them for the first time, I wouldn't buy a set of the 3M size having known they don't last as long, this to me makes them ridiculously expensive if you buy a set (£30+)  but if you buy 1 black 3M Posca paint pen individually for example it's fairly cheap around £4 on Amazon. It depends how long you want it to last/what you want to use it for. I prefer the 5M size because it's better value for money, it's a good size not too big which is important for my artwork because I outline almost everything.

I always buy Posca paint pens from Amazon but having looked on the Posca website just now (as i'm typing this post) there doesn't seem to be a way to buy them direct from their website, it only shows you what products they do. On amazon you can buy them as part of sets or individually and there are a range of prices for the same product so don't just buy the first one you see have a look at what's available there may be a listing that's more suitable than the first one you see. Expect to pay around £15 for a small set and around £30 for a larger set and under £5 for an individual.  I think they also do sets of 2 or 3 which are around £10. Depends what your budget is but I think on Amazon for this product it's accommodating to most peoples budgets and it's deffo an art supply that's worth investing in!

Some of my favourite artwork produced by using Posca paint pens:

Have you ever tried Posca? If not, will you try Posca?

Let me know your thoughts :)

Till next time,
