How To Overcome Depression

Image
Yes. That's right you CAN overcome depression, it's not easy but it is possible. First things first are you really depressed or are you just burnt out? The symptoms overlap loads...you can read my post on the subject here and what to do about it.  So how do I overcome depression? You've got to break the cycle or it'll be never ending man, start small by being grateful for 3-5 things they can be little things like that you have toilet roll or that you don't have to shit in a bucket, you should try practice being grateful daily if you can. Then you've gotta make a promise to yourself that you'll attempt getting dressed/washed/make yourself look more presentable each day because it'll make you feel a little better. It might not feel nice at first to have to get dressed but once you've successfully managed this for a week or so then you can begin to tackle the stuff you've been putting off. It's easier if you write a list of what's most imp...

How To Art

Image
You don't need fancy supplies to create amazing artwork it's a myth, it certainly helps to advance your work but it's not a necessity for creating. You can create art with just a normal pen or pencil and some paper.  But how do I art? Well you first need to let go of any outcome assumptions or ideas and just go for it, put the pen/pencil to the paper and move it around however feels natural - if you feel like dragging it across the page do that, if you feel like being all floaty or scribbly do that; you can set a 30 second timer whilst you draw to help you get into the flow. The more you practice this automatic drawing the easier it becomes and the more ideas you'll start to get. My next tip is to experiment with art supplies like marker pens, pencils, paints etc. and see what you can do with whatever you just produced in the drawing exercise. It takes time to figure out which supplies you like using best and over time you'll start to develop your own art style whic...

Habits To Combat Anxiety, Depression and Low Self-Esteem X Mental Health Monday

Image
Happiness isn't a permanent state remember life's like a heart beat it goes up and down and without the downs can't appreciate the ups, so being all sunshine and rainbows is actually toxic positivity which is super unhealthy and unhelpful for combating anxiety/depression but you can strive for feeling content and fulfilled with your life; which in turn provides real happiness, healthy positivity and improves your self- esteem. Accept that some things you cannot control but you can control how you react in how much you let it affect you, sometimes no amount of worrying or anxiety can improve, fix or change situations - infact you can actually make things worse as what you think you attract and all that jazz, you just gotta ride it out wait for better days to come man.  "Prevention is the best medicine" and that's exactly what CBT teaches you, if you don't know what CBT is then you can read my previous post on the topic  here .  It's normal not to be per...

Confidence X Mental Health Monday

Image
Confidence and self confidence are two different things and when anxiety comes into the mix or other mental health disorders it can really affect your confidence. Confidence is something that comes and goes, especially when it comes to struggling with mental health, it can be a daily battle to feel good about yourself and it's normal to wish your confidence was better but it can be developed over time; being confident isn't about thinking you're better than anyone else that's ego which is toxic confidence. Confidence is about doing things you set out to and it's having faith in yourself -  can you be relied on? It's okay if the answers no, you can still work on it it's not too late.  There are a lot of habits that destroy your confidence like caring too much about what other people think, this is the number one confidence killer comparing your confidence level with someone else's. And when you place other peoples opinions above your own and change your b...

Live For The Moment X Mental Health Monday

Image
If my psychotic episode taught me anything, it'd be to live for the now - don't take tomorrow for granted because life really could be over sooner than you imagined. I'm healing and can see things clearer now but it wasn't this way for about 8 months, I really did think life could be over at any given hour to come. I'm not going into details about the psychotic episode I've probably said too much already, but there are things that have changed as a result of it; like living for today, making the most out of life and being grateful for the little things. See my psychotic episode forced me to give up for a while on absolutely everything in life and my mindset may not have been perfect but since beginning to heal I've learnt that living for the moment certainly has it's benefits. I've achieved so much in the past 6 months it's unreal the difference it's made having this mindset shift from leaving everything till tomorrow to just getting shit don...
